The title of this blog is taken from the Bible. It is in the book of 2 Timothy 2:15, where we read: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.

It goes without saying that studying implies reading, and reading over and over again. It is a repetitive process. Not only that, but reading different books or articles on the same or similar topics. This broadens our understanding of the subject of study. The source of these topics are books or articles written in newspapers, magazines or any other outlet of making it known.

In our present day, books have evolved in a way we never would have imagined. Nowadays we have, hardcover books, paperback books, eBooks and even audio books, and dare I say we haven’t seen the last of this process. The Bible teaches, in Daniel 12:4, that in these latter days “knowledge shall be increased”. The increase of knowledge definitely implies the writing of more and more books on even more new topics or subjects. It also means more reading or interaction with these books.

Those who read more, learns to converse better. They have a broader vocabulary and can express themselves better. The popular saying is that, “knowledge is power”. It may not be directly so, but there is a definite, undeniable correlation between knowledge and power. I would say that the real power lies in how the knowledge is applied. Reading does empower the reader. It empowers the reader with knowledge, with insight and it broadens their views on life’s issues: the issues of man.

Books contain information of people written by people of people or of personal experiences. But, at the heart of it, is the human species. It entails their discoveries, newfound knowledge, explorations of life’s paths and our inter-personal interactions.

It was Ernest Hemingway who said: “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”

Anne Lamott puts it as follows: “What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.”

God who is the author of life, wrote His entire story (History) in a book. The story of the existence of all life on the face of the earth, was written in a book, before the foundation of the world was ever laid. Life, which is a very sacred thing to God, is recorded in a book: the book of life.

Revelations 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. These names were written in the book of life from the foundation of the world. Books are therefore important!
